The history of the Spanish Mastiff

The Spanish Mastiff is an ancient and pure breed dog, that lived for many centuries in the Spanish mountains.
The Spanish Mastiff is a stockbreeder, molosser dog with an excellent character.
The Spanish Mastiff exists since time immemorial but its morphology and size varied depending on their role.
The standardized characteristics of the breed came from an only specimen that had been bred in the best livestock of Leon Mountains, Asturias and Santander. This specimen had strong bones, a big head, more furs and an impressive appearance. Indeed, a pair of these mastiffs was enough for defending a flock from wolves threat.

Today the Spanish Mastiff is more and more appreciated as a trustful protector of the family, and at the same time a great pet.
